Before you get a Weimaraner
Before you decide to find yourself a puppy of weimaraner think of it first properly. It is necessary not to be selfish. It is not only about you, it is about the whole family and, not leaving aside, about the dumb living creature. It will not be a toy either for your children or for you. And first and foremost it will not represent a task for days or weeks or months…. My goal here is to talk about three most important points which are essential for a weimaraner owner. I am not a hunter. I am just an ordinary human being who bought herself one weimaraner and two years later another one. Since then I am trying very hard to give them the best of me and my life and free time. That is the least that we can do for our dumb but still the best friend…
1. First and at the same time the most important thing- keep your weimaraner active…
It is absolutely essential to provide your weimaraner with loads of activity. This breed really needs to stay outdoors at least for hour a day. The dog is absolutely dependant on you, so it is your task to take him or her for a walk in any weather-snowing, freezing, raining…If you don’t do so, your reward is going to be a completely destroyed house or flat or at least shoes and clothes and deeply unhappy creature…
2. Weimaraner needs to be occupied
As I mentioned above, you MUST take your Weimaraner out for long walks…And when I say for a walk, I really mean it. It is not enough to keep your dog in the garden for a couple of hours…this is not airing. It is important to wise up that garden is not advantage for your weimaraner, it is advantage for you! If your dog need to go out within a night, it is so ease to let him/her go on your garden, but nor either all-day staying on the garder will not compensate two-hours craze in wood, field, lake. Another very important thing is to change places of walks; visit new parks and places…just let your weimaraner discover new things, smells, and perceptions…
3. Training
It is very useful to ask a professional for help when training a Weimaraner, since only the most experienced people can handle the training without it. I recommend starting the training in five months-of age of the puppy. The best thing is to take her or him to the training ground and teach obedience. However training should not take part only in the ground…Each and every walk should partially be a game and partially training. And do not forget: The obedience training never ends…repetition is the mother of wisdom!!! We should not leave aside that a Weimaraner is a hound dog. That’s why you should start at least the basic hunting training, e.g. retrieval. This hunting training will cost you a lot of your time and your money, but believe me, when you see results, when you see YOUR DOG works, it is wonderful feeling...
So, if you are willing to sacrifice your time and in fact your life, well go ahead!!!! Let your Weimaraner endow you with love, friendship and happiness.
